Islam
His Majesty the King has provided royal patronage for Islamic in
many ways. He have been involved in many religious activities with proper
manners, studied principles of the Islam, provided financial support and land
to build mosque. Hence, Muslims are greatly grateful to the His Majesty the
King for his patronage, of which the most important is
“Translation of the Noble Qur'an from Arabic language to
Thai language, having the book published and distributed throughout the
kingdom.”
In 1962, His Majesty the King had Mr. Tuan Suwannasat, who
is the Chief of the Muslims in Thailand during that time, to translate the
Noble Qur'an from Arabic to Thai language. The work had been followed up
by the king until it was accomplished. It took totally 1 year 7 months and 8
days for the translation to be completed. During the Celebration Ceremony
th
of the 14 Century Anniversary of Qur'an on March 16, 1968, His Majesty
the King remarked that
“The Noble Qur'an is not only the important religious text of the
Islam religion, but also an important literature of the world. Being recognized
an honored publicly, the Qur'an has been published extensively in different
languages. Hence, it is truly reasonable for the text to be translated and
published in Thai language, not only to facilitate Thai Islam followers who do
not understand Arabic language, but also to open up an opportunity for any
2 other people who is interested in study of Islamic principles and teachings.
After the translation was completed, His Majesty the King had
the religious texts to be distributed to every mosque in the kingdom. With
His Majesty's royal grace, this Noble Qur'an in Thai was re-published many
times in important occasions of the country-- such as, for the occassion of
the 50 Anniversary Celebrations of His Majesty's Accession to the Throne
th
in 1996, and the Celebration of 6th Cycle Birthday Anniversary of Her
Majesty Queen Sirikit (August 12, 2004) in 2005.
