Founder: The Prophet Muhammad and
                                                                    Muslims


                                                                               The prophet of the Islam religion is Nabi Muhammad. He was

                                                                    born in Mecca on Monday the 12  day of the Rabi’ al-awwal month, which
                                                                                           nd
                                                                    corresponds  to April  22 ,  571 AD.  He  received  his  revelation  from
                                                                    Allah  through Angel  Jibreel  (Gabriel),  and  was  ordered  to  extend
                                                                    the  doctrine  of  Islam  to  all  men.  Six  months  after  his  appointment
                                                                    to  be  the  Nabi,  the  Prophet,  he  took  up  his  role  as  the  prophet
                                                                    responsible  to  spread  the  message  from Allah  to  the  people,  starting
                                                                    with his family and then extending it to friends and relatives. During
                                                                    the whole period of 13 years that he preached in Mecca, he had to face many
                                                                    obstructions of the Quraysh, the ruling tribe of Mecca during the time, until
                                                                    he finally had to migrate to Medina. This migration marks the beginning
                                                                    of the Islam Era, called Hijrah Era (or Anno Hejira). Nabi Muhammad
                                                                    continued his preaching at Medina for a period of time, then returned to
                                                                    Mecca to accomplish his mission of preaching there. Afterwards, he returned
                                                                    once again to Medina, where he passed away at the age of 63. Altogether,
                                                                    he had been the messenger of Allah for 23 years. He is considered to be the
               2                                                    last prophet of Islam.
                                                                               In the Islamic religion, there is no priest to perform ritual
                                                                    ceremonies  and  to  specifically  disseminate  the  religion.  Everyone  is
                                                                    supposed to have the duty in carrying on the existence of the religion. Thus,
                                                                    one must practice using and being guided by the religious regulations. One is to
                                                                    thoroughly study and learn about the teachings of the doctrine, and to
                                                                    propagate it on the basis of one’s knowledge.
                                                                               In  Thailand,  the  management  of  the  Islamic  religion  is
                                                                    administered by The Central Islamic Committee of Thailand, chaired by
                                                                    the Chularatchamontri, who is the top leader of Islamic administration in
                                                                            1
                                                                    Thailand. Local levels of administrative work are governed by the Provincial
                                                                    Islamic Councils, the Masjid Committee and the Imam, a leader of each Masjid.
                                                                    The Khatib is the person who delivers the sermon in the masjid and the Bilal
                                                                    is the person who calls for adherents to come for their prayers as scheduled.
