Founder: The Prophet Muhammad and
Muslims
The prophet of the Islam religion is Nabi Muhammad. He was
th
born in Mecca on Monday the 12 day of the Rabi’ al-awwal month, which
nd
corresponds to April 22 , 571 AD. He received his revelation from
Allah through Angel Jibreel (Gabriel), and was ordered to extend
the doctrine of Islam to all men. Six months after his appointment
to be the Nabi, the Prophet, he took up his role as the prophet
responsible to spread the message from Allah to the people, starting
with his family and then extending it to friends and relatives. During
the whole period of 13 years that he preached in Mecca, he had to face many
obstructions of the Quraysh, the ruling tribe of Mecca during the time, until
he finally had to migrate to Medina. This migration marks the beginning
of the Islam Era, called Hijrah Era (or Anno Hejira). Nabi Muhammad
continued his preaching at Medina for a period of time, then returned to
Mecca to accomplish his mission of preaching there. Afterwards, he returned
once again to Medina, where he passed away at the age of 63. Altogether,
he had been the messenger of Allah for 23 years. He is considered to be the
2 last prophet of Islam.
In the Islamic religion, there is no priest to perform ritual
ceremonies and to specifically disseminate the religion. Everyone is
supposed to have the duty in carrying on the existence of the religion. Thus,
one must practice using and being guided by the religious regulations. One is to
thoroughly study and learn about the teachings of the doctrine, and to
propagate it on the basis of one’s knowledge.
In Thailand, the management of the Islamic religion is
administered by The Central Islamic Committee of Thailand, chaired by
the Chularatchamontri, who is the top leader of Islamic administration in
1
Thailand. Local levels of administrative work are governed by the Provincial
Islamic Councils, the Masjid Committee and the Imam, a leader of each Masjid.
The Khatib is the person who delivers the sermon in the masjid and the Bilal
is the person who calls for adherents to come for their prayers as scheduled.
