Shrines and Religious Objects



               Wat Sri Maha Uma Devi
                            The temple's address is 2, located on Pan Road of Silom
               Subdistrict, Bangrak District, Bangkok. The place of worship was
               established 100 years ago, completed in year 1916, by Tamil Nadu
               Indians from the South of India. It was originally called “Mariamman
               Temple,” but the temple's name was changed to “Maha Uma Devi
               Temple.” However, among Thais, the temple is better known as
               “Wat Khaek Silom,” meaning the Indian temple on Silom Road.
               Every year, the temple sponsors a spectacular festival and procession
               in worship of the goddess Maha Uma Devi; the festival is called
               the Navaratri, and is well known in Thailand. The temple houses
               contains many important images of Deities that were brought in from
               India for observance, such as the Ishvara, Uma and Brahman Thada.
               In addition, a Buddha image of “Phra Buddha Chinnarat Wat Khaek”
               was also established so Buddhists may come for circumambulation
               and prayers on important Buddhist religious days, as well.
