The Noble Al-Qur’an, “Qur’an” in Arabic means “Recitations.” It refers to the
book of God or Allah that comprises the testament of Allah, divided into 30 parts, 114 chapters
and more than 6,000 verses. However, they were not arranged into any systemic order during
the lifetime of Nabi Muhammad, the Prophet, so it was not until in the period of Abu Bakr, the
first caliph, that these verses were collected and all the records were arranged into a book. Later,
copies were made for dissemination to the different areas of Islamic religious worship. The
Muslims believe that the Noble Qur’an is the Constitution of Life, holy and useful to humankind.
The contents of the book are full of knowledge on various subjects, lessons on the way to live
and the rules and regulations of behaviour that all Islamic adherents must follow.
The Al-Hadith is the teaching and the practice of Nabi Muhammad that his
caliphs have gathered together. It summarized the character of the Prophet, Nabi Muhammad
and his life serves to be a model for all Muslims to follow. These characteristics include the ethical
conduct and duties towards the people in one’s close relationships, i.e. parents, teachers and
friends, etc. It also is the guide for proper social manners in aspects of eating, socializing, and
visiting a masjid. It emphasizes that one must be calm and proper in order to avoid religious
punishment and be able to develop moral wisdom, and by doing so, be blessed by Allah.
