After year 1932, Thailand changed its governing form from Absolute Monarchy
to a Constitutional Monarchy, under which the King serves as “Head of State,” under the terms
of the Constitution of Thailand. Even though this democratic system does not correspond with
Brahmin beliefs, the Brahmin ceremonial practices remained strong, keeping its important
symbolic role in the Thai society and remarkably, became a cultural identity of Thailand. The
concept of Brahmin of the Devasathan continues to adapt its styles of practice to meet condi-
tions of present-day lifestyles. The Brahmin temple maintains the rites and concepts to convey
good and auspicious virtues for the institutions of the nation, religion and the King, in order to
sustain the happiness and prosperity of the country.
