The Holy Bible, the Testament and
its Practice
The principal book of Christianity is the Bible or Holy
Bible, a word derived from the Greek word, biblia which means ‘the
book.’ The Bible is not a book written at one time, but instead was a
series of books written by many authors in different periods of time.
These series were compiled into a directory called the “Canon of
Scripture” which is divided into two main parts: the Old Testament
and the New Testament.
The Old Testament is a collection of 46 books, according
to the Catholics and 39 books for the Protestants. They are the
collection of stories that occurred before the appearance of Jesus
Christ. Because Christianity developed from Judaism, the original
monotheistic religion, the scripture of Judaism were also included
in the Old Testaments of the Christian Bible. The first five books of
the Old Testament are the basis of shared interfaith beliefs between
the religions of Christianity and Judaism. The first five books of
the Old Testament are; Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and
Deuteronomy. The stories cover the beginning of the earth, the history
of mankind, the history of the Jewish, which explain the religious
belief, and social rules of the Jewish in earlier days.
